Introduction:
During the month of November in honor of Infant Specialist Magda Gerber's birthday, I plan to share a 'thought a day' regarding her work. The following post is from Early Childhood Educator, Sadie Shea. Sadie is a mother of two wonderful boys, a longtime colleague, and friend, and a Magda Gerber practitioner.
"Magda saw the WHOLE human, today, present human. And that's astounding! That's what I see of her work. She saw the basic needs of every human when met with calm confidence, allowed each human to flourish within the relationship of their carer. She saw the integral function of play could not be achieved through projections of another and required established safe boundaries in order for humans to reach "flow" (before that was even a concept) She was light-years ahead and I think she saw what I'm seeing and we're seeing the same things in a different way."
As you can see from reading Sadie's post, she understands the very essence of Magda Gerber's work.
