About Roseann Murphy

While born in Chicago, Roseann spent most of her adult life working in Southern California in the early child care field. Roseann describes herself as a life-long learner, observer, and friend. She is an accomplished Early Childhood Educator, world-renowned consultant, research coordinator, and child care advocate with over forty plus years of experience.

Her extensive resume includes positions as a private in-home teacher, family child care trainer, parenting coach, and workshop leader, as well as foster parent, and family child care provider.

In the early ’90s, together with colleague Magdalena Palencia, Roseann founded The Malibu Infant Toddler Child Development Center and then subsequently Little River School; a unique and specialized environment emphasizing the RIE® methodology. Malibu Infant Toddler and Little River School served the infant/toddler/preschool community for many years.

Perhaps the most remarkable experience in Roseann’s career began in 1978 when she met and trained with celebrated Early Childhood Education pioneer Magda Gerber. While attending Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, California, Roseann was fortunate enough to start her life-long journey following the work of her beloved teacher, mentor, and friend, Magda Gerber. At that time Resources for Infant Educarers Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE®) was only in its beginning stages. It was then that Magda invited her students and close colleagues into the very first RIE® One, Two, and Three training.

One year after the creation of Magda Gerber’s now established Resources for Infant Educarers, in June 1979, Magda Gerber introduced the world to the work of Dr. Emmi Pikler during the first International infant conference, which was held in both Los Angeles and Santa Cruz. It was there the participants were privileged to hear the long-established research of Dr. Pikler, based on over 30 years of scientific observation of children. Roseann was invited to participate in the panel discussions alongside additional early childhood specialists.

Roseann now resides in Northern Illinois and continues her work and studies in all areas of early childhood education and development. Roseann is an artist who loves nature, gardening and caring for her many rescue animals.
